2 held at Ahmedabad airport for traveling on fake passport

AHMEDABAD: Delhi-based man and woman were held on Tuesday for travelling on fake passport at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport.

Anil Kumar Lamba and Rajveer Kaur were to travel to Germany via Dubai before they were detained by immigration officials at the international terminal.

The bureau of immigration after questioning the duo for hours filed a complaint with Sardarnagar police. The police has detained the duo and are further investigating the case.

“Anil Lamba lives in Germany and he was taking Rajveer Kaur with him. They both had fake arrival and departure stamps on their passports of Bathinda airport. They were supposed to board Emirates early morning flight to Dubai before they were detained,” said V R Patel, senior police inspector, Sardarnagar.

Sources said that Lamba is a carrier and was reportedly paid to take Kaur along with him.

Last month, Nigeria based Kingsway Ebuka, 27 was held for travelling on bogus passport with fake visa stamp at international terminal of city airport. According to police, he was desperate to meet his new born son for which he got fake passport.

In last two months, Sardarnagar police have arrested seven people for travelling on bogus documents from city airport and two agents for providing fake visa stamps.

Interestingly, all these cases had one thing common. All the accused arrested had not only procured bogus passport but also had fake visa stamps. Both the agents arrested were also found to be providing fake visa stamps.

In June, four Mehsana-based men were arrested for traveling on fake visa stamps to Canada. Also in June, a Bangalore based carrier Arun Alphonse was caught while trying to take a Kadi-based woman to Canada on fake documents. The duo posing as couple were to fly to Canada by a Qatar Airways flight.
